HOMEWORK POLICY

 

It is school policy to allocate homework regularly and consistently

 

Homework is an essential part of school life.  It is necessary so as to reinforce what has been taught, learned and done in school during the day.

 

1. Homework is allocated by class teacher.
2. Homework consists of written, oral or practical work.
3. Oral homework is just as important as written work.
4. If a pupil fails to do homework, his/her teacher can require him/her to do it at a date and time to be directed including break time.
5. Constant failure to do homework will mean that parents/guardians of the pupils concerned will be contacted.
6. In certain cases sanctions may be imposed.

 

GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

 

1. Pick a suitable time for your child to do his/her homework.
2. As far as possible a working place which is quiet, comfortable and free from distraction of radio, television, computer and other noises should be arranged.
3. Show interest in his/her work.
4. Check that his/her books and copies are kept clean and tidy.
5. Check his/her diary every night, so that you know what homework he/she has.
6. When you are satisfied that he/she has done his/her homework, sign her diary.

 

Please ensure that your child goes to bed at a reasonable hour each night

 

GUIDELINES FOR PUPILS

 

1. You must do the homework your teacher gives each day.
2. Write down in your diary the homework that the teacher gives you.
3. When your homework is completed, your parents must sign your diary.
4. Be sure to put your books, copies and diary in your bag to bring to school the next day.

 

TIME ALLOCATION FOR HOMEWORK

 

• Junior Infants 10 – 15 minutes + reading
• Senior Infants 15 – 20 minutes + reading
• 1st & 2nd class 20 – 30 minutes
• 3rd & 4th class 40 – 50minutes
• 5th & 6th class 50 – 60 minutes
